I recently just went back home and put on my 2nd straight year of my football camp. We host it at my local high school and once again had a very successful year. Even with the short notice, only 1 and a half months of deciding to do it. We had over 70 kids get to show up for an unforgettable experience. Last year, we had over 130 kids show up, which was great but 70 was a perfect number. So why only 70 kids this year. Well the main reason I believe is I wasn’t home for a month before to promote it. The first year, I would bring my flyers to the high school and to other places in the community to really be seen by other people. When people feel that connection in person, I believe they are more inclined to come. Promoting something virtually can have people skeptical I believe. When you show up in person it shows that you care a little more. The most valuable asset we give others is simply our time. Through our time to others do we show others that we really care. Now for the camp, we set it up a lot like the previous year. Participants got the opportunity to train with pro athletes, navy seals, martial artists, the police force and elite trainers. I think it is very important for our youth and future generations to be around these individuals that are living life to the fullest and making a positive impact on the world. As a pro athlete, I can inspire others to work hard and go after their goals. While that is pretty awesome, the military and police force help protect us from evil and allow us to live without worrying about many dangers. Now that is pretty significant. We even had a kid tell the police force that he wanted to become a police officer one day. How about that kid getting to experience some police training first hand. So powerful! This camp isn’t easy to organize. It takes a lot of prep and a lot of help/coordination from others. I’m very lucky to have such good connections with people that I can rely on and are bought into the mission of helping the youth. That’s another point! You have to have others help you if you want to make a big impact. We have to learn and work together. The first year went smoothly but this year was even smoother. I want to continue to grow this and provide kids these great opportunities. It is the least I can do for how much God has blessed me. The more that is given to someone the more is expected. It can be a challenging burden to carry sometimes but we must each embrace this style of life. Embrace the challenge of making yourself and the world a better place. The last point I want to talk about is this. I didn’t promote the camp early this year because I was in between a lot of different things and I wasn’t currently on a pro team. I felt a little like I wasn’t worthy of putting on an event this year. I had to fight that urge of being an imposter. At the end of the day, we have to fight that fear and still do it anyways. Imagine if I would of not put on this event. Maybe that kid wouldn’t be inspired to a police officer anymore. You never know the trickle effect that can occur from the good deeds that you do. You are more qualified than you think to help others. You must first make sure you are living to a high standard. then help others do the same. (More on this later) Fight that urge of hiding and playing it small. Make an impact however big or small! Keep Going!
